Looking Good- News 2 Installs Duratrans Made for HD

Most people never notice the graphics behind television broadcast talent- and that's pretty much the point.  The background is not necessarily meant to be seen.  These images, known as duratrans, are designed to craft the landscaping of the show.  Usually when these images are noticed, it is not for a good reason.

After 11 years, WCBD has upgraded our 3x duratrans behind the main news desk.  The old images were actually very large photographs, printed on photography paper.  They had to be handled with care and it was very easy to scrape off the printed image.  The new duratrans are printed on a vinyl material and are installed on a lighted wooden frame behind the set.

What a project- you would think more than velcro is needed to hold them on but that is all it takes.  Four staff member including Daron Matayabas, Ryan Clucas, myself and the intern, Peter, worked over a period of three days to lay out the fabric, measure the frame and perform the installation.  The actual installation took 5 hours inbetween newscasts.
